Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is poised for a significant boost in its Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A production with the Nashik plant gearing up for its first locally manufactured aircraft rollout by the end of November 2024.

This marks a major milestone for the Tejas program, as Nashik becomes the third production line dedicated to the LCA-Tejas Mk1A variant. The existing Bengaluru facility houses two production lines with a combined capacity of 16 aircraft annually.

HAL strategically plans to manufacture an initial batch of five LCA-Tejas Mk1A from the Nashik plant. This initial production run paves the way for future expansion, with the potential to increase Nashik’s output to eight aircraft per year.

Meanwhile, HAL’s existing LCA production lines in Bengaluru are also undergoing a ramp-up process. These facilities are expected to reach a combined production capacity of 16 units per year starting from 2025-26.

With the combined output from Nashik and Bengaluru, HAL is set to significantly increase its Tejas Mk1A production capacity, catering to the Indian Air Force’s growing requirements for this indigenous fighter jet.

HAL plans to boost the production to 24 units per year by 2026-27 and is also interested in further ramping it to 30 units due to further orders of 97 units are to be placed by the IAF.
