India is making significant strides in its indigenous defense capabilities with the development of the STAR missile, a very long-range Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVR-AAM) designed to counter Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS). Officially dubbed the Supersonic Target Acquisition Rocket (STAR), this missile is poised to enhance the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) ability to neutralize high-value aerial targets at extended ranges, marking a leap in India’s aerospace technology.

The STAR missile is powered by Liquid Fuel Ramjet (LFRJ) propulsion, a technology that offers distinct advantages over traditional solid-fuel rocket motors. LFRJ systems provide sustained thrust over long distances, enabling the missile to maintain high supersonic speeds throughout its flight. This makes STAR particularly effective for engaging distant, high-altitude targets like AWACS, which often operate far from the frontline to provide early warning and command functions for enemy forces. By targeting such assets, STAR aims to disrupt an adversary’s situational awareness and command structure, giving the IAF a tactical edge in aerial combat.

In the volatile landscape of modern conflict zones, where threats evolve rapidly and unpredictability reigns, Mumbai-based AerPace Industries has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative: aerShield, an unmanned combat ecosystem designed to safeguard missions and prioritize human safety. Announced on May 15, 2025, aerShield is not merely a collection of drones but a unified, AI-powered force that redefines warfare by emphasizing intelligence-driven operations over human exposure. With a mission mindset at its core, aerShield aims to minimize casualties, accelerate response times, and enable smarter, safer military engagements.

The philosophy behind aerShield is clear: human exposure in conflict zones must be the last resort. In today’s evolving battlefields—where drones, asymmetric threats, and rapid escalation dominate—traditional warfare systems often fall short in delivering the speed, precision, and decision-making required without putting lives at risk. AerPace Industries, in collaboration with Aerpace Robotics Pvt Ltd, UAV Tech Pvt Ltd, and Leospear Defence Pvt Ltd, has developed aerShield to address this gap. The ecosystem is built to scan, track, and engage threats with minimal human intervention, ensuring that intelligence leads the way and soldiers are kept out of harm’s reach until absolutely necessary.

In a significant development, a Pakistani delegation has been actively lobbying the United States administration to secure advanced American radar and air defense systems. This push comes in the wake of a series of devastating precision strikes by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on May 8-10, 2025, which targeted 12 Pakistani air bases and nearly 30 military installations across the country, exposing vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s air defense capabilities. The strikes, part of India’s Operation Sindoor, have prompted Pakistan to urgently seek technological upgrades to counter India’s growing aerial dominance.

The IAF’s Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for a Pakistan-backed terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, demonstrated India’s advanced military capabilities. The operation saw precision strikes on key Pakistani Air Force (PAF) bases, including Nur Khan (Rawalpindi), Rafiqui (Shorkot), Murid (Chakwal), Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Chunian, Sargodha, Jacobabad, Bholari, Skardu, Pasrur, and Sialkot.

China has reportedly offered its KJ-500 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) as a replacement for the now-retired ZDK-03 Karakoram Eagle AEW&C platforms. The KJ-500, developed by the Shaanxi Aircraft Corporation, features a fixed AESA radar with 360-degree coverage and is based on the Y-9 airframe, an improved variant of the Soviet-origin Y-8.

The offer comes in the wake of PAF’s retirement of three ZDK-03 aircraft — also built on the Y-8 platform — after barely 7-8 years in service, due to unsatisfactory performance both in the air and on the ground. These aircraft reportedly suffered from a range of operational limitations, including poor radar performance, mechanical unreliability, and maintenance issues, raising serious concerns about the viability of similar platforms.

In an era where maritime security faces evolving challenges, Chennai-based defense startup Big Bang Boom Solutions (BBBS) has introduced a groundbreaking innovation: the CNIDARIA AQUA TETHER. This non-lethal vessel immobilization system, highlighted in recent posts on X, aims to provide a safer and more sustainable solution for naval and coast guard operations, addressing the need to neutralize threats without resorting to deadly force.

The CNIDARIA AQUA TETHER is designed to stop vessels at sea in a non-lethal manner, a concept BBBS has been developing as part of its portfolio of innovative defense solutions. Drawing inspiration from nature—its name likely referencing the jellyfish genus Cnidaria, known for its stinging tentacles—the system employs a tether-based mechanism to entangle and immobilize a target vessel’s propulsion system. This approach ensures that unauthorized or hostile vessels, such as those involved in smuggling, piracy, or illegal fishing, can be halted without endangering lives or causing significant damage to the vessel itself.

A recent image circulating on social media claims that Pakistan destroyed an S-400 radar system at India’s Bhuj Air Force Station, escalating tensions amid the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict. However, a closer examination reveals this narrative is misleading and based on misinterpretation of satellite imagery.

The image in question, dated February 24, 2025, shows the Bhuj military base in Gujarat, India, with annotations highlighting what the claimant describes as evidence of destruction. The primary focus is on an area marked as “possible oil stains or fuel spillage within the maintenance area.” A review of the satellite imagery indicates that these markings are more likely oil stains in the vehicle service yard, a common sight in military bases where general-purpose trucks—also visible in the image—are serviced. The presence of such stains aligns with routine maintenance activities rather than the aftermath of an attack.
