In the volatile landscape of modern conflict zones, where threats evolve rapidly and unpredictability reigns, Mumbai-based AerPace Industries has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative: aerShield, an unmanned combat ecosystem designed to safeguard missions and prioritize human safety. Announced on May 15, 2025, aerShield is not merely a collection of drones but a unified, AI-powered force that redefines warfare by emphasizing intelligence-driven operations over human exposure. With a mission mindset at its core, aerShield aims to minimize casualties, accelerate response times, and enable smarter, safer military engagements.

The philosophy behind aerShield is clear: human exposure in conflict zones must be the last resort. In today’s evolving battlefields—where drones, asymmetric threats, and rapid escalation dominate—traditional warfare systems often fall short in delivering the speed, precision, and decision-making required without putting lives at risk. AerPace Industries, in collaboration with Aerpace Robotics Pvt Ltd, UAV Tech Pvt Ltd, and Leospear Defence Pvt Ltd, has developed aerShield to address this gap. The ecosystem is built to scan, track, and engage threats with minimal human intervention, ensuring that intelligence leads the way and soldiers are kept out of harm’s reach until absolutely necessary.

As Ravi Soni, Executive Director of AerPace Industries, stated in a press release, “We’re not simply building drones—we’re shaping a new frontier for India’s defence autonomy. aerShield is a testament to what homegrown innovation can achieve when guided by purpose and urgency.” This mission-driven approach has positioned aerShield as a game-changer in unmanned warfare, focusing on neutralizing threats long before they escalate into crises that demand human intervention.

AerShield is more than a set of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)—it’s a fully integrated defence architecture that combines surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strike capabilities into a cohesive system. The ecosystem is designed to adapt dynamically across diverse terrains, conditions, and threat levels, ensuring operational flexibility in even the most hostile environments. What sets aerShield apart is its collaborative operational model: these drones don’t function in isolation but as a unified force. Reconnaissance triggers response, strikes follow surveillance, and every action clears the path for safety—all without risking human lives.

The aerRecon Series: Advanced Surveillance Units

At the heart of aerShield lies the aerRecon series, a lineup of advanced surveillance UAVs designed to provide mission-critical intelligence with unmatched endurance and accuracy. Each model in the series is tailored to specific operational needs, ensuring that aerShield can tackle a wide range of scenarios—from deep-range missions to urban reconnaissance.

  • aerRecon ARM-5 / ARM-10: These fixed-wing UAVs are the intelligence backbone of aerShield, optimized for high-endurance missions. Capable of up to 8 hours of autonomous flight, they provide live thermal and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) feeds, enabling real-time threat detection. With encrypted data relay and AI-assisted mission planning, the ARM-5 and ARM-10 can track targets across hostile zones, delivering actionable intel long before threats escalate. Their design prioritizes endurance and accuracy, making them ideal for border surveillance and preemptive threat mapping.
  • aerRecon ARM-30: Built for persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) over vast and volatile terrains, the ARM-30 extends aerShield’s reach with 8+ hours of flight endurance and a payload capacity of 30–60 kg. This fixed-wing UAV supports EO/IR, SIGINT, or custom sensors, making it versatile for deep-range missions where manned aircraft are restricted or high-risk. Its ability to transmit data both in line-of-sight and beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) ensures continuous situational awareness, even in remote or contested areas.
  • aerRecon ARM-60: Designed for compact deployment and rapid launch, the ARM-60 is a multirotor UAV tailored for short-range ISR in challenging environments like urban areas, mountainous regions, or GPS-compromised zones. With a payload capacity of up to 50 kg and modular integration for visual and thermal sensors, the ARM-60 delivers real-time data to tactical units on the ground. Its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability makes it a “vertical eye” in tight airspace, providing critical surveillance where larger systems cannot operate effectively.

What truly distinguishes aerShield is its AI-driven integration, which enables its UAVs to operate as a cohesive unit rather than individual assets. Reconnaissance data from the aerRecon series feeds directly into the system’s decision-making algorithms, triggering appropriate responses—whether that’s deploying a strike drone like the aerStriker AST-R7 (a kamikaze drone with a 5 kg warhead and swarm operation capability) or relaying intel to ground units for further action. This seamless coordination ensures that aerShield can neutralize threats with speed, precision, and purpose, all while keeping human operators at a safe distance.

The system’s AI capabilities also allow it to adapt dynamically to battlefield scenarios, a critical feature in modern warfare where conditions can change rapidly. Whether it’s tracking a swarm of Pakistani Asisguard Songar micro-drones along the Line of Control or conducting ISR missions in high-altitude terrains, aerShield’s drones work together to provide a comprehensive operational picture, enabling faster and smarter decision-making.
