Senior Indian American leader Swadesh Chatterjee has said the community is hesitant to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 election as she has not developed a base among them in her previous roles as Senator or the Attorney General of California.
A Padma Bhushan awardee of 2001, the Democratic community has created the “Indian Americans for Harris” group and has been campaigning for her not only in the state of North Carolina, where he is based, but is also organising support for the vice president in other battleground states.

A doctor and five labourers were killed when terrorists struck a tunnel-construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday, officials said.
The unidentified terrorists carried out the attack when the labourers and other staff working on the tunnel project at Gund in Ganderbal had returned to their camp late in the evening, the officials said. They said the terrorists — believed to be at least two — opened indiscriminate fire on the group of labourers that included both locals and non-locals.

In his first reaction after being withdrawn by New Delhi following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s continued “hostility” towards India, senior diplomat and High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma on Sunday termed the allegations levelled by Ottawa as “politically motivated” with no evidence whatsoever presented by the Canadian government of India’s alleged involvement in last year’s killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
“Nothing at all. No evidence was presented. Politically motivated,” Verma told Canada’s CTV ahead of his departure from the country.

Condemning the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and they will face the harshest response from the security forces.
A doctor and five labourers were killed in indiscriminate firing by terrorists at a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway on Sunday, officials said. “The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces,” Shah wrote on ‘X’.

Russia’s top diplomat has said that his country believes that India, Brazil and African countries should be represented in the UN Security Council on a permanent basis to ensure the representativeness of the global majority, state-owned TASS news agency reported on Sunday.
“Countries such as India, Brazil, as well as representatives of Africa should have been on a permanent basis in the Security Council for a long time. This is necessary to ensure representativeness, representation of the global majority,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told aif.ru. in an interview, TASS reported.

The President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu, decided to take the necessary steps to introduce the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in the island nation, following the recommendation of the Cabinet on Sunday.
This move came following India agreeing to share its expertise in the implementation of digital and financial services and to work in the development of the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) through the launch of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Unique Digital Identity, during Mohamed Muizzu’s State Visit earlier this month.

A massive explosion took place near a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in Prashant Vihar in Delhi’s Rohini on Sunday, triggering panic among area residents who mistook it as a terror strike. No one was injured in the blast that took place around 7.45 a.m. There is no confirmation yet if it was an act of terror but there were indications of possible use of a crude bomb.
A high-security alert has been sounded in the Capital, police said. Sources said a powder-like white residue collected from the blast site was sent for forensic test.

One terrorist was killed on Sunday in the joint operation launched by the security forces along the line of control (LoC) in J&K’s Uri sector. Army’s Srinagar-headquartered Chinar Corps said that the joint team neutralised one heavily armed militant and recovered 01 AK Rifle, 02 AK Magazines, 57 AK rounds, 02 Pistols, 03 Pistol Magazines and other war-like stores from the site.
“The search in the area is underway and the operation is in progress,” Chinar Corps said. Earlier, the army said that based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bid, a joint anti-infiltration operation was launched along LoC in Uri.

An Indian ex-official charged by the US with directing a murder-for-hire plot has dismissed the allegations, his family said, expressing shock that Vikash Yadav was wanted by the FBI. Yadav, 39, described the claims as false media reports when he spoke to his cousin, Avinash Yadav, the relative told Reuters on Saturday in their ancestral village about 100 km from Delhi.
The US Department of Justice charged Yadav with leading an unsuccessful plot to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun last year. Yadav was an official of the Research and Analysis Wing spy service, according to the indictment unsealed on Thursday.

Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman recently concluded their bilateral naval exercise, ‘Naseem Al Bahr’ off the coast of Goa. The exercise lasted from October 13 to October 18. The Indian Navy highlighted the details of the naval exercise on the social media platform, X.
As per the press statement, the exercise was conducted in two phases, with the harbour phase that lasted from October 13 to October 15, which was followed by the sea phase which was conducted from October 16 to October 18 onwards. As part of harbour activities, personnel from both Navies engaged in professional interactions, including Subject Matter Expert Exchanges and planning conferences. In addition to this, sports fixtures and social engagements were also held.

No injury was reported from the blast outside Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in Rohini, Delhi, but the glasses of nearby shops and a car were found damaged, the Delhi Police said.
The area has been cordoned off, and a fire brigade team is also present at the spot.A loud blast was reported outside the CRPF school in the Prashant Vihar area of Rohini district early Sunday morning. The material that caused the blast initially looked like a crude bomb, but the details will be clear after full reports are received, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) sources said.

The pattern of domestic airlines receiving bomb threats continued for a fourth day with multiple flights being targeted Thursday, as authorities suspended or blocked about 10 social media handles for posting threats, according to official sources.
Among the flights that received threats on Thursday four were of Air India Express, two of Vistara and one Indigo. Air India said “a number of” their flights also received hoax bomb threat, but they did not specify the number.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi during his four day official visit to Japan visited Fuji School and met with Lieutenant General Yasuyuki Kodama, Commanding General of the premier military training institution of Japan and was briefed on the school’s curriculum and facilities. “As part of his ongoing visit to Japan, COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi visited the Fuji School, located at Fuji. He met with Lieutenant General Yasuyuki Kodama, Commanding General of Fuji School,” Indian Army said in a statement about the October 16 visit.
“He was briefed about the school which houses the Fuji Information School and Experiment Development Team. The school runs courses both on foundational as well as specialised subjects including Information Warfare, Armoured Warfare, Firing and Military Exercises. He also witnessed a display of equipment and facilities available in the school,” the Army statement read.

An encounter between security forces and terrorists is underway along the Line of Control (LOC) in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army officially stated on Sunday.
In a post on X, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said that a joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched in the area. “Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bid, a Joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched by #Indian Army & Jammu Kashmir Police along LOC in general area Uri, Baramulla. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire. Operation is in progress,” the Chinar Corps said.
