India’s growing focus on enhancing its ground forces’ mobility and protection has led to offers from both the United States and Russia for advanced wheeled armoured platforms. Following the U.S.’s proposal to locally produce the Stryker Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), Russia has countered with its Boomerang Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and Wheeled Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), based on the Boomerang unified combat platform.
This comes as India explores options to equip its motorized infantry, special forces, and marine units with 198 modern, high-performance APCs that can enhance their operational capabilities in diverse terrains.
The Boomerang platform, developed by Russia’s Military Industrial Company (MIC), offers a versatile, highly mobile, and well-protected solution for the transportation of troops and combat operations. The Boomerang can transport up to 11 people (crew and troops). Embarkation and disembarkation can be done through upper hatches, a rear door, or a ramp, providing flexibility in various combat situations.
The Boomerang features an 8×8 wheel drive construction, providing high manoeuvrability in difficult terrains. An independent suspension system ensures better ride comfort and stability. The vehicle is powered by a 750 hp diesel engine, giving it excellent mobility even in off-road conditions. Coupled with an automatic transmission, the Boomerang is designed for efficient long-range movements during tactical manoeuvres.
