The Indian Army has recently showcased an upgraded variant of the BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), featuring a unique configuration designed in-house. The most notable upgrade includes the integration of a single-launcher 3rd Generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), providing a significant boost in firepower.
The upgraded BMP-2 IFVs now sport a single-launcher 3rd Gen ATGM, a testament to the innovative capabilities of the Indian Army’s in-house design team. This modification aims to enhance the vehicle’s anti-tank capabilities, ensuring that it remains a formidable asset on the battlefield. Additionally, a twin-launcher configuration for the ATGMs has also been developed, offering even greater firepower and versatility. This twin-launcher setup will be implemented in the interim, providing the Army with enhanced strike capabilities until a comprehensive upgrade is completed.

The Indian Army is gearing up to deploy its first batch of robotic MULES (Multi-Utility Legged Equipment) – dog-shaped machines designed for surveillance and logistics in challenging terrain.
According to sources within the defense establishment, a September 2023 emergency procurement order secured 100 of these robotic companions. A pre-dispatch inspection of the first 25 MULES has been completed, paving the way for their imminent induction into the Army.

An Indo-Russian company’s vendor, M/s BSS Material from Amethi, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court contesting its exclusion from the bidding process for a massive ?12,000 crore contract to supply close-quarter battle carbines to the Indian Army.
The crux of the petition revolves around alleged “ambiguity” in the bidding process. M/s BSS Material claims the technical evaluation committee (TEC) mistakenly considered their financials instead of those of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), IRRPL.

In 2019, the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) plan to equip its Mirage 2000 fighter jets with long-range Meteor air-to-air missiles faced a setback. Dassault Aviation, the manufacturer of the Mirage 2000, and MBDA, the maker of the Meteor missile, declined the integration due to two key factors.
Integrating the Meteor missile with the Mirage 2000 would have necessitated significant modifications to the aircraft’s systems. These modifications were deemed too expensive by both Dassault and MBDA.

Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have made a significant breakthrough in infrared imaging technology. They’ve created a device that can “up-convert” invisible infrared light to a visible range, allowing us to see it directly.
The human eye can only see a specific range of light frequencies, known as the visible spectrum. Infrared light falls outside this range, with even lower frequencies than red light. While invisible, infrared has various applications in fields like astronomy, defense, and night vision.

Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd here on Tuesday, for design and development of a miniaturised satellite capable of carrying electro-optical, infrared, synthetic aperture radar and hyperspectral payloads up to 150 kg.
The contract was exchanged between Additional Secretary (Defence Production) and CEO, Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) Anurag Bajpai and Founder and CEO of SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd Awais Ahmed Nadeem Alduri in presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and other officials. In his address, the Defence Secretary appreciated the unwavering commitment of new defence innovators for pushing the boundaries of technology and safeguarding the nation, a Defence Ministry statement said.

Russia and India are preparing a visit to Russia by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian state news agency RIA quoted a Kremlin aide as saying on Tuesday.

Propelled by strong government impetus and the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the revenue of the top 25 private aerospace and defence companies is set to grow 20 per cent to Rs 13,500 crore this fiscal (FY25), a report showed on Tuesday.
Operating margin is likely to rise 50-60 basis points on sustained revenue growth, economies of scale and better-fixed cost absorption, and should remain stable over the medium term, aided by price escalation clauses in contracts, according to the report by CRISIL Ratings.

The US should welcome more students from China, but to study the humanities rather than sciences, the second-ranked US diplomat said on Monday, noting that US universities are limiting Chinese students’ access to sensitive technology given security concerns.

At least 10 Indian fishermen were arrested while one Sri Lankan naval sailor was killed in an operation launched by the island nation’s authorities to seize a trawler allegedly engaged in illegal fishing in the Sri Lankan waters, authorities said on Tuesday.
The incident came two days after 18 Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy for alleged poaching. The operation was launched on Tuesday off the coast of Delft islet in Northern Jaffna when the Sri Lankan Navy received information that an Indian with some fishermen was involved in illegal fishing in the Sri Lankan waters.

A London-bound Air India flight received a bomb threat on Tuesday but no explosives were found, an official here said. A man suspected of making the threatening call has been apprehended by authorities, a Cochin International Airport spokesperson said . Security personnel conducted extensive checks on the aircraft and found no danger, allowing the flight to proceed as planned, he said in a statement here.
According to him, a bomb threat call was received by the Air India call center in Mumbai early on Tuesday for flight AI 149, scheduled to fly from Cochin to London Gatwick.
