The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has embarked on an ambitious project to develop a conventional, non-nuclear variant of the Agni-5 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), tailored specifically for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
According to sources cited by idrw.org, this variant, equipped with a massive 7.5 to 8-tonne warhead, will feature two configurations: an airburst warhead for widespread surface damage and a bunker buster warhead designed to penetrate and destroy underground facilities, such as command and control centers or nuclear weapon storage sites. With a reduced range of 2,500 km to accommodate the heavier payload, the missile is engineered to evade ballistic missile defence (BMD) systems, making it a formidable weapon for targeting large-scale and fortified enemy infrastructure. This development addresses the IAF’s lack of a strategic bomber capable of delivering heavy ordnance like the U.S. GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), positioning the Agni-5 as a critical asset in India’s strategic arsenal.

During an official visit to Greece from June 23–25, 2025, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (IAF), engaged in high-level discussions with Lieutenant General Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff (HAFGS), to strengthen bilateral air force ties. A key topic during the visit was Greece’s offer to sell 15 Mirage-2000-5 fighter jets to India, as the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) seeks to phase out these aircraft in favor of its recently acquired Rafale jets.
However, according to sources cited by idrw.org, the IAF has expressed reservations about procuring these jets due to their advanced age, limited remaining airframe life, and configuration differences compared to the IAF’s existing Mirage-2000 fleet.

At Aero India 2025, Russia unveiled its next-generation fighter jet engine, Izdeliye 177S, developed by United Engine Corporation (UEC) under the Rostec conglomerate. This engine integrates fifth-generation technologies derived in part from the AL-51 engine that powers the Su-57 “Felon.” While Russia has offered this engine for India’s fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), the 177S has piqued the interest of the Indian Air Force (IAF) for another reason: its potential as a future upgrade for the Su-30MKI fleet.
The Su-30MKI, the backbone of the IAF’s combat fleet, is currently powered by the AL-31FP engine. Both AL-31FP and Izdeliye 177S engines share identical weight and dimensions (1,520 kg dry weight), making them fully interchangeable without requiring structural changes to the aircraft — a crucial factor for cost-effective integration.

In a bizarre twist during the India-Pakistan conflict from May 7-10, 2025, a Pakistani farmer named Sufyan from Sialkot became an unlikely hero when he shot down a drone using his personal rifle. The Pakistani Army initially hailed his act as a patriotic feat, only for investigations to reveal an embarrassing truth: the downed drone was a Pakistani Yiha-III (serial number 24-043), a high-precision unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and loitering munition developed jointly by Turkey’s Baykar and Pakistan’s defense industry.
The incident, which sparked both amusement and criticism, unfolded during Operation Sindoor, a four-day escalation triggered by a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, that killed 26 civilians. India’s retaliatory strikes targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, prompting Pakistan to launch a massive drone offensive, deploying 300–400 Turkish-made Yiha-III and Asisguard Songar drones. However, many of these drones, including the one Sufyan shot down, failed to reach Indian airspace, with some crashing within Pakistan due to technical malfunctions or inadequate handling.

At the recent CNN-News18 Defence Townhall, Lt Gen Vinod G Khandare (Retd.), former Principal Adviser to the Ministry of Defence, delivered a candid and incisive assessment of the reliability of Chinese military equipment, particularly the kind supplied to nations like Pakistan. His remarks cast a spotlight on the credibility of China’s military hardware, raising critical questions about its performance in real-world combat scenarios and the strategic implications for India’s adversaries.
Lt Gen Khandare minced no words as he questioned the combat-tested credentials of Chinese missile systems and other military equipment. While these systems may appear formidable on paper, boasting sleek designs and impressive technical specifications, their effectiveness in actual battle remains unproven. This skepticism is particularly significant given China’s role as a major arms supplier to countries like Pakistan, which relies heavily on Chinese platforms such as the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet and the PL-15 air-to-air missile.

In a significant step toward bolstering India’s indigenous air defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has issued a call for bids to develop a Mobile Launcher System for the M2 and M3 interceptor missiles under Project Kusha, also known as the Extended Range Air Defence System (ERADS) or Programme Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (PGLRSAM).
The mobile launcher system is critical for ensuring the operational flexibility and rapid deployment of the M2 (250 km range) and M3 (350–400 km range) interceptors, designed to counter advanced aerial threats, including stealth jets, drones, cruise missiles, and anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs).

The Colorado-based company Radia, known for its ambitious plan to construct the largest-ever fixed-wing aircraft, is now turning its attention to India as a potential hub for suppliers in its WindRunner program. Initially envisioned as a purpose-built solution for transporting wind turbine blades, Radia is expanding the aircraft’s scope to include commercial cargo and military logistics applications.
The conceptual WindRunner, a four-engined behemoth with a nose-to-tail length of 108 meters (356 feet) and a maximum payload of 72,575 kg (160,000 lbs), is designed to operate on dirt runways, leveraging its massive straight wing for relatively short take-off and landing capabilities.

The Indian Embassy in Indonesia on Sunday termed media reports on Defence Attache Captain Shiv Kumar’s purported remarks on Operation Sindoor as “misrepresentation” as he expounded on the country’s anti-terrorism operation deep inside Pakistan on May 5.
The Defence Attache had made the remarks at a seminar in an Indonesian university. “We have seen media reports regarding a presentation made by the Defence Attache at a seminar. His remarks have been quoted out of context, and the media reports are a misrepresentation of the intention and thrust of the presentation made by the speaker,” the Embassy said in a post on X.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the government has planned to make provisions for emergency landing of Indian Air Force fighter jets as well as civilian aircraft on a national highway stretch near Dibrugarh within October this year, marking this is the first-of-its kind of facility to come up in the entire northeastern region.
Himanta Sarma told reporters here: “The Union government has given the nod to prepare a portion of national highway from Moran to Numaligarh that passes through Dibrugarh to use it as an emergency landing facility for Air Force fighter jets like Sukhoi 30 and Rafale. A stretch of 4.2 km on this national highway is being prepared to land fighter jets.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday ruled out any talks with Maoists and said the cadre of the proscribed outfit should give up arms, surrender before police, and join the mainstream. Addressing a rally after inaugurating the National Headquarters of the Turmeric Board in Nizamabad in Telangana, Shah also said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is still raising questions on Operation Sindoor, should see the weak appearance of Pakistan to understand the effectiveness of the operation.
“Congress asks (the Centre) to hold discussions with these people (Maoists). Our government’s policy is ‘no talk’ with those who hold arms. Give up weapons, surrender, and join the mainstream,” Shah said.

Pakistan’s political landscape has long been orchestrated not by its elected representatives but by the opaque influence of its military elite, whose grip on the nation’s trajectory grows ever more evident with each successive episode. The recent visit of Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, to the United States—noticeably unaccompanied by the Prime Minister—serves as a striking indication of how far civilian authority has been marginalised.
If this were not a sufficiently telling sign, Pakistan’s peculiar nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize further underscores the surreal and unaccountable hybrid regime now presiding over this nuclear-armed state. In this unfolding drama, it is not the democratic will but the triad of Allah, America, and the Army that dictates Pakistan’s fate—a trinity that has empowered its generals with unrestrained influence while exacting profound costs from the very nation they claim to defend.

Russian oil giant PJSC Rosneft Oil Company is in early talks with Reliance Industries for sale of its 49.13% stake in Nayara Energy, which operates a 20-million tonnes-a-year oil refinery and 6,750 petrol pumps in India, sources said.
Reliance has held preliminary talks for acquisition of Nayara, which will help it overtake state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). But the talks are at preliminary stage and there is no guarantee that they may lead to a definite deal as valuation remains a sticky ground, three sources with direct knowledge of the matter said.
