In a significant boost to domestic defense manufacturing, the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders has successfully indigenized the Bridge Window Glass for ships in collaboration with M/s Jeet & Jeet Glass, Jaipur. These specialized blast-proof and radar-opaque glasses are critical components of the Enclosed Bridge, Flag Bridge, Combat Information Center (CIC), and Flight Control Officer (FCO) compartments of warships.

Until now, Bridge Window Glasses for Indian Navy ships were imported. The successful indigenization of this essential component is a major step towards reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and promoting self-reliance in the defense sector.

The Bridge Window Glasses are designed to withstand blast pressures and prevent radar penetration, ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of warships. The installation of these glasses with suitable wiper systems is crucial for providing clear visibility for navigation and helicopter operations.

Each ship typically requires approximately 32 Bridge Window Glasses of varying sizes, with the maximum dimensions being 1790×700 mm and thicknesses ranging from 19 to 25 mm.

The indigenization of Bridge Window Glasses by MES and M/s Jeet & Jeet Glass is a testament to the growing capabilities of Indian defense manufacturers and their commitment to supporting the country’s naval modernization efforts.
