The LCH Prachand, India’s indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), is set to receive a Tactical Video Data Link (TVDL) system, significantly enhancing its network-centric warfare capabilities. This development will enable real-time data sharing across various platforms, improving coordination and battle management.
According to industrial sources close to idrw.org, work has already begun on the development and testing of such a system, designed specifically for the LCH Prachand to provide its crew with a comprehensive visual and data-sharing advantage in the battlespace.
The Tactical Video Data Link (TVDL) system, under development for the LCH Prachand, is a sophisticated video and data receiver/transmitter system. It allows the aircrew to receive real-time, high-quality video imagery and data captured by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground-based sensors directly in the cockpit. This real-time data sharing can dramatically shorten the sensor-to-shooter loop, enabling faster and more efficient decision-making on the battlefield.
With TVDL, the LCH Prachand crew can access live imagery and data without relying on lengthy radio communication, creating a shared visual language among all forces in the operational network. This system not only enhances situational awareness for the helicopter’s crew but also acts as a vital force multiplier by relaying critical information to other platforms, both airborne and ground-based, in real-time.
The LCH Prachand is already equipped with a data link that facilitates network-centric operations, allowing mission data to be seamlessly transferred between other airborne platforms and ground stations.
