At Aero India 2025, the Indian Navy’s MiG-29K was prominently displayed, equipped with a cutting-edge piece of technology from Belarus—the ADS ‘Talisman’ pod developed by Defence Initiatives. This integration marks a significant upgrade in the MiG-29K’s defensive capabilities, showcasing India’s ongoing efforts to enhance its military aviation with state-of-the-art technologies.
The ADS ‘Talisman’ is a sophisticated electronic warfare system designed to provide comprehensive protection to operational aircraft against a wide array of threats.
The pod is capable of countering guided missiles equipped with active or semi-active radar seekers. It disrupts the homing capabilities of these missiles by emitting jamming signals, thereby misleading their guidance systems.
Talisman also tackles missiles that use electro-optical or infrared seekers, offering protection against heat-seeking threats which are increasingly common in modern warfare. The pod can jam the datalinks of command-guided Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs), which are typically controlled from the ground, ensuring that the aircraft remains undetected or the missile’s guidance is disrupted.
An innovative feature of the Talisman is its ability to protect against ‘friendly fire’, ensuring that the aircraft’s own missile systems or allied ground defenses do not mistakenly engage the MiG-29K.
