In a significant revelation, the Director General of Air Operations for the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that the IAF has successfully downed multiple Pakistan Air Force (PAF) aircraft, preventing them from entering Indian airspace. While exact numbers were not disclosed, the DG Air Ops stated, “We have definitely downed a few PAF planes. Don’t want to get into the numbers even though we have a number. But their aircraft were not allowed to enter our airspace.”
According to IAF sources cited by idrw.org, at least three PAF jets were shot down over Pakistani airspace, with two attributed to Indian air defense missile systems. A key piece of evidence supporting these claims is the recovery of debris from a 40N6E missile, part of India’s S-400 air defense system, inside Pakistan. The 40N6E is the longest-range missile in the S-400 arsenal, capable of engaging targets up to 400 km away, underscoring the IAF’s ability to neutralize threats from significant distances.
While the specific aircraft destroyed have not been officially confirmed, sources indicate that the downed jets likely include two JF-17s and one F-16. The use of advanced air defense systems like the S-400 highlights India’s robust defense capabilities and its commitment to safeguarding its airspace.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, with both nations maintaining vigilant air defenses. While the DG Air Ops did not elaborate on the specific incidents or timelines, sources indicate that these engagements likely occurred during recent skirmishes along the Line of Control (LoC). The IAF’s advanced radar systems, coupled with its fleet of Sukhoi Su-30 MKI, Rafale, and Mirage 2000 jets, have been instrumental in maintaining air superiority.
The DG Air Ops further highlighted that the PAF’s attempts to breach Indian airspace were met with swift and precise responses, ensuring no unauthorized incursions succeeded. “Our air defense network is fully prepared, and we have the capability to neutralize any threat before it crosses our borders,” he added.
This development follows a history of aerial confrontations between the two nations, most notably the 2019 Balakot airstrike and the subsequent dogfight, where the IAF successfully downed a PAF jet. The IAF’s technological edge, bolstered by real-time intelligence and seamless coordination, continues to deter potential aggressors.
While the DG Air Ops remained tight-lipped on specifics, the statement serves as a stern warning to adversaries and a reassurance to the Indian public of the IAF’s vigilance. The IAF’s ability to thwart PAF incursions without allowing enemy aircraft to penetrate Indian airspace reflects its strategic dominance in the region.
