In a significant display of military prowess, recent clashes along the India-Pakistan border have underscored the effectiveness of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) air defence systems. According to reports from ANI, Hindustan Times, and confirmations from the AFI, four to five Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets were shot down by India’s advanced air defence network. The engagements have highlighted the growing sophistication of India’s missile systems, with the MR-SAM, Akash Mk1, and S-400 systems credited for the kills.
AFI has confirmed that at least three PAF aircraft were neutralised by the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system, one by the Akash Mk1, and one by the formidable S-400 system. Digital evidence, including radar tracks and intercepted communications, has revealed that the downed aircraft included at least two JF-17 Thunder jets and one Mirage-III/V, with an additional JF-17 likely destroyed in a separate sector by the Akash Mk1.
The MR-SAM, a joint Indo-Israeli development, proved its precision in engaging fast-moving targets, successfully downing three PAF jets. The Akash Mk1, a homegrown system, demonstrated its reliability by neutralising a JF-17 in a high-intensity combat scenario. However, the most striking achievement was the S-400’s destruction of a PAF SAAB 2000 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, which was operating 280-300 km inside Pakistani airspace. This long-range kill underscores the S-400’s unmatched capability to dominate the battlespace far beyond India’s borders.
The successful engagements mark a turning point in regional air defence dynamics. India’s layered air defence network, combining indigenous systems like Akash with advanced platforms like the S-400, has proven its ability to counter a range of aerial threats, from fighter jets to high-value assets like AWACS. The loss of the SAAB 2000, a critical node in PAF’s command and control structure, is a significant blow to Pakistan’s operational capabilities.
The digital evidence, including imagery and signal intercepts, has been meticulously studied, confirming the accuracy of India’s air defence systems. The ability to neutralise threats at extended ranges, as demonstrated by the S-400, sends a clear message about India’s technological edge and its readiness to protect its airspace.
PAF also lost on Saab 2000 AWACS on ground that also includes one C-130B and Atleast Three F-16s when its hangar was target along with that 10 UCAVs, majority of Pakistani origin were also shot downed.
