Punjab Police on Tuesday (May 6, 2025) recovered a cache of arms and explosives during a joint operation with a central agency in the forest area near Tibba Nangal-Kular Road in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, officials said.

A woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
The gunfight took place on Monday in a forest of Karregutta Hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, where a joint team of security forces has been conducting a massive anti-Naxal operation for more than two weeks, Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range Sundarraj P said.

Farmers living along the nearly 200-km-long International Border in Jammu and Kashmir are racing against time to complete the harvest process amid heightened tension following the Pahalgam terror attack.
In the three districts of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua, about 1.25 lakh hectares of agricultural land falls within the shelling range of Pakistan. Villages like Treva, Mahashe-de-Kothe, Chandu Chak, Gharana, Bulla Chak, and Korotana Kalan are witnessing a flurry of activity, with families working day and night to finish harvesting, dry the grain, and pack it for delivery to mills.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy have successfully undertaken combat firing (with reduced explosive) of the indigenously designed and developed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). The system is an advanced underwater naval mine developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory, Visakhapatnam in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories – High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune and Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Chandigarh.
MIGM is designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities against modern stealth ships and submarines. Bharat Dynamics Limited, Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited, Hyderabad are the production partners for the system.

India’s decision to keep the Indus River treaty in abeyance has caused alarm in Pakistan. The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) advisory committee on Monday expressed deep concern over a sudden decrease in River Chenab inflows at Marala due to short supply by India, which may result in a 21% water shortage in Pakistan during the early Kharif season.
IRSA Advisory Committee meeting was held to approve the Anticipated Water Availability Criteria for the balance period of Kharif from May to September 2025 under the Chairmanship of Sahibzada Muhammad Shabir, Chairman IRSA at IRSA HQS Islamabad.

India on Monday lodged a strong protest with Canada over the “threatening language” and “unacceptable imagery” targeting Indian leadership at a parade held in Toronto. The floats at the parade on Sunday reportedly featured pro-Khalistan propaganda and imagery attacking the Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
India lodged a protest with the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi over the parade, official sources said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Monday voiced concern over tensions between India and Pakistan being at “at their highest in years” and called for “maximum restraint and stepping back from the brink”.
“Make no mistake: A military solution is no solution,” Guterres said in a brief statement. Guterres offered his “good offices” to both governments in the service of peace. “The United Nations stands ready to support any initiative that promotes de-escalation, diplomacy, and a renewed commitment to peace,” he said.

India is looking for “partners” and not “preachers”, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar said on Sunday (May 4, 2025), in a veiled message to Europe in the context of the conflict in Ukraine as he explained the nuances of New Delhi’s “Russia realism” and why the relationship between the two sides was an “important fit”.
In an interactive session, Mr. Jaishankar, delving into broader geopolitical upheavals, said Europe had “entered a certain zone of a reality check” and must display some sensitivity and mutuality of interest for deeper ties with India.

In a continued wave of cyber offensives, the account on X “Pakistan Cyber Force” has revealed that the group has allegedly gained access to sensitive data from the Indian Military Engineering Service and Manohar Parrikar Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis.
In addition to this data breach, it has also been reported that the group also attempted to deface the official website of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited, a PSU company under MoD. The website has been defaced by using the Pakistan flag and the Al Khalid tank, it added.

The Union Home Ministry has asked several states to conduct mock drills on May 7 for effective civil defence, government sources said. They said the measures to be undertaken include operationalization of Air Raid Warning Sirens and training of civilians, students,etc on the civil defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a hostile attack. The sources said measures also include the provision of crash blackout measures, provision for early camouflaging of vital installations and updation of the evacuation plan and its rehearsal.
Tensions have risen between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. The government has said that perpetrators of the terror attack will face severe punishment. A 30-minute rehearsal for blackout was conducted in the entire Ferozpur Cantonment area on Sunday amid the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.

A Pakistani national was detained by Border Security Force (BSF) troops after he illegally crossed the border in Gurdaspur area of Punjab, official said on Monday. According to the a senior BSF officer, the troops were on patrolling duty when they detained the individual on intervening night of May 3-4, The individual has been handed over to Punjab Police for further investigation. The BSF is the primary force responsible for guarding the 3,323 km long India-Pakistan border, spanning the states of Jammu and Kashmir (including parts of the LoC), Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
This border is one of the most sensitive and volatile in the country, due to historical tensions and ongoing security challenges. On April 23, Pakistan Rangers detained a BSF trooper after he inadvertently crossed the International Border near Punjab’s Firozpur. The incident occurred while a BSF trooper was crossing the border to provide security to local farmers working near the fence.According to initial reports, the trooper unintentionally stepped into Pakistani territory.

India has begun work to boost reservoir holding capacity at two hydroelectric projects in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters, after fresh tension with Pakistan led it to suspend a water-sharing pact.
Last month, New Delhi suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty between the nuclear-armed rivals that ensures supply to 80 percent of Pakistani farms after an attack in Kashmir killed 26, and it identified two of the three assailants as Pakistani.

The civil and military leadership of Pakistan has briefed the country’s political parties on tensions with India in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack.
All political parties barring former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party attended the in-camera briefing on Sunday, the Dawn newspaper reported. Pakistan will respond with “full spectrum of force”, including nuclear, if it is attacked or its vital water flow disrupted, Pakistan’s ambassador here has warned amid tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Muhammad Khalid Jamali made the comments during an interview with Russia’s state-run TASS news agency on Sunday. Warning that Pakistan was prepared to respond to any aggression, the ambassador said, “We in Pakistan will use the full spectrum of force, both conventional and nuclear.”
