BEML Limited, a leading defense equipment manufacturer in India, has secured an order for the design, development, and supply of 20 Datran 1500hp engines for the country’s Main Battle Tanks (MBTs). These advanced engines mark a significant leap forward in military propulsion technology and are set to play a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of India’s armored forces.

The Datran 1500hp engine is engineered to rival some of the most advanced military propulsion systems globally. With its high power output and sophisticated technology, this engine provides superior acceleration, manoeuvrability, and operational endurance, which are critical factors for MBTs in modern warfare. Datran 1500hp engines are to be first tested on the older Arjun Prototypes before it is cleared for the program and also for the FRCV program.

The Datran 1500hp engine is equipped with a range of state-of-the-art features, making it one of the most advanced tank engines in the world. These engines are designed to offer high reliability and performance, even in the most challenging environments and combat conditions.

Key features include:

Electronic Warning Control: The integrated electronic warning system monitors engine performance and alerts operators to any malfunctions or irregularities, allowing for preventive maintenance and reducing the risk of mechanical failures in the field.

High Power-to-Weight Ratio: The engine’s optimized design ensures that it delivers maximum power while keeping weight to a minimum, enhancing the tank’s overall mobility and combat performance.

Extreme Condition Operability: The Datran engine is designed to function under extreme environmental conditions, including altitudes of up to 5000 meters and temperatures ranging from -40°C to +55°C. It can also operate efficiently in desert conditions, where dust, sand, and high temperatures typically strain engine performance.

Electronic Control with CRDi Technology: The engine incorporates Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDi) systems, which provide precise fuel control, improve efficiency, and reduce emissions. The electronically controlled fuel injection ensures optimal power delivery, fuel efficiency, and smooth operation under varying conditions.

Self-Cleaning Air Filters: To improve reliability in harsh environments, the engine features self-cleaning air filters that ensure dust and debris do not clog the system. This reduces the need for frequent maintenance and increases operational readiness.
