India’s Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is embarking on a project to enhance the capabilities of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The company has begun work on an improved version of the existing Long Range Glide Bomb (LRGB), a 500kg inertially guided bomb.

Designated MkII, 500kg inertially guided bomb will incorporate a newly designed wing kit assembly. This modification is expected to extend the operational range of the bomb beyond the current 30+ kilometres.

The MkII will function as an air-to-surface LRGB equipped with conventional warheads. This weapon system is designed to take down enemy airstrips, bunkers, fortified structures, and buildings with high precision.

While specific range improvements and other technical details remain undisclosed, BDL has initiated preparations for assembling the MkII. This signifies a critical step forward in the development process. This improved guided bomb will equip the IAF with a powerful and versatile weapon, bolstering its ability to neutralize enemy threats with greater precision and range.
