The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), a premier research and development laboratory under DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), is currently seeking qualified pilots with extensive experience in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations to join its UAV projects. ADE is looking to engage these pilots as consultants to help develop and test various UAVs and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) that are crucial for India’s defense sector.

The primary responsibility will be the planning and execution of all UAV test operations as per the project requirements at ADE. This includes flight testing, data collection, and operational analysis. The consultant will be involved in UAV and UAS testing, covering all aspects of development, including autonomous systems, endurance testing, and performance validation.

The test center, led by the UAV Test Pilot Consultant, will be responsible for compiling detailed test reports after each flight or testing session. A monthly report summarizing all tests and highlighting key findings will be submitted to the Director of ADE and the Director General (Aero). This reporting structure ensures that project progress and issues are closely monitored.

Ensuring safety during UAV testing operations is paramount. The consultant will be expected to highlight any safety concerns, propose solutions, and ensure that all safety protocols are adhered to. This role also involves creating and managing operator documentation.

Expertise and Skills Required for UAV Test Pilot (Internal Pilot) Consultants:

1. UAV Flying Experience:

  • A minimum of 1,000 UAV flying hours is required for the consultant role, ensuring that only experienced pilots with a deep understanding of UAV flight dynamics are considered.

2. Years of Experience in UAV Operations:

  • The consultant should have at least five years of experience operating UAVs, including as an Instructor. This is critical as UAV test operations require expertise in flight testing protocols and UAV systems management.

3. UAV Test Course Certification:

  • The candidate must have undergone a UAV Test Pilot Course from the Airborne Systems Test Establishment (ASTE) or any other recognized test school or institution, ensuring that they are well-versed in UAV testing and evaluation procedures.

4. Educational Qualifications:

A graduate or post-graduate degree in Science or Engineering is required. Alternatively, candidates with ex-service experience in UAV operations can also be considered, provided they meet the other requirements. The blend of academic knowledge and practical experience is necessary to handle the complex UAV testing operations.
