Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, has announced the company’s intention to participate in an upcoming tender issued by the Indian defence forces. The tender seeks to acquire 97 ‘Made-in-India’ drones for surveillance operations along the borders with China and Pakistan. Adani Defence will offer the Hermes-900 drone, also known as the Drishti-10 Male drone, for this significant procurement.
The Drishti-10 Male drone has already proven its capabilities, with the Indian Army and Indian Navy each acquiring two units for benchmarking and further testing. These drones are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing surveillance and intelligence-gathering capabilities in strategically sensitive regions.
Adani Defence has emphasized the indigenous nature of the Drishti-10 UAVs, stating that they incorporate 60% Indian technology. This achievement is part of a broader initiative to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and enhance self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The development of the Drishti-10 drones is the result of a collaboration between Adani Defence and the Israeli firm Elbit Systems. Through a technology transfer agreement, Adani Defence has successfully indigenized 70% of the drone’s components and aims to increase this percentage further. This partnership underscores the synergy between international expertise and local manufacturing capabilities.
Tender might also see several other players that might send in their proposal including DRDO which is trying to fix many of the technical issues with its Tapas UAV. 76 MALE UAVs to be procured will see 60 units designated for the Indian Army, 12 for the Indian Air Force, and four for the Indian Navy.
