Adani Defence and Bombardier Defence are reportedly in discussions to offer Global series jets to the Indian Air Force (IAF) for its upcoming Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Airborne Early Warning (AEW), and Electronic Warfare (EW) programs.

The IAF is currently seeking an ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting and Reconnaissance) platform for battlefield and ground surveillance operations. The Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) of DRDO is leading the development of this platform, with reports suggesting it will be based on the Bombardier Global Express business jet platform.

While it is not clear what the exact deal will be about but it is likely to see the manufacturing of components for the Global series jets and also in the intergration of the sensors and euipments on it that are to be developed by the DRDO.

This news comes on the heels of Adani Defence & Aerospace’s recent success in the Netra II project, a significant development for India’s air defence capabilities. The company was declared the L1 (lowest bidder) for integrating and delivering various sensors into the project alongside DRDO. Notably, Netra II utilizes pre-owned Airbus A321 aircraft, offering a larger and more powerful platform compared to the Embraer-145 used in Netra Mark I.

The potential collaboration between Adani Defence and Bombardier Defence holds promise for the IAF’s modernization efforts. Bombardier’s Global series jets, known for their long-range, high-performance, and advanced avionics, are well-suited for ISR, AEW, and EW missions. Adani Defence’s growing expertise in defence integration, coupled with Bombardier’s proven platforms, could provide the IAF with a compelling solution for its evolving needs.
