Bengaluru-based start-up Pravaig has achieved a significant milestone with its Veer EV, which completed rigorous trials in Ladakh and other northern high-altitude regions. These trials, conducted by the Indian Army, spanned nearly two months and tested the vehicle’s capabilities across challenging terrains and conditions. The trials are part of the Army’s evaluation for potential use by its Special Forces, and initial results suggest the Veer EV could be an excellent addition to their operational capabilities.
The Veer EV is powered by a dual-motor setup that generates an impressive 408 horsepower and 620Nm of torque. Equipped with a 90.9kWh battery, the vehicle boasts a range of over 500km, making it suitable for extended operations in remote areas. Designed to operate efficiently in harsh environments, the Veer EV was subjected to trials in Ladakh’s difficult terrains, including steep inclines, rocky paths, and extreme temperatures, proving its resilience and operational potential.
Pravaig, a New Delhi-based company with a focus on cutting-edge defence technologies, has developed 80% of the technology for the Veer EV in-house.
Pravaig’s defence subsidiary, Atima, has been actively engaged in developing advanced military solutions. The Veer EV is part of a broader initiative by the company to provide the Indian military with high-performance electric vehicles that offer strategic and tactical advantages.
Atima’s Electric Tactical All Terrain Vehicle (E-TATV) emerged as the winner of the 9th iDEX Open Challenge. Designed specifically for stealth forward patrolling and reconnaissance missions, the E-TATV offers several advantages over traditional vehicles used by the military. Its electric powertrain operates quietly, reducing the vehicle’s noise and heat signatures—key elements for stealth operations. This makes the Veer EV particularly valuable for forward patrolling and reconnaissance missions in hostile or sensitive environments, where avoiding detection is critical.
The Veer EV has several features that make it well-suited for military use. It includes a thermal imaging sensor for enhanced situational awareness, airlift hooks for rapid deployment, a four-tonne winch, a two-tonne tow hitch, and IP 65-rated storage compartments for critical equipment. These features allow the vehicle to support a wide range of military operations, from transportation to tactical deployment in combat zones. Additionally, it is equipped with run-flat tyres, ensuring continued mobility even after sustaining damage.
Measuring 4,940mm in length, 1,950mm in width, and 1,650mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,030mm, the Veer EV has been designed with both mobility and endurance in mind. Despite weighing 1,870kg, it has a substantial payload capacity of 690kg and can tow up to 2,500kg, making it a versatile tool for various military logistics and combat scenarios. Its ability to carry equipment or even mount weapons systems adds to its operational flexibility.
