Adani Defence, a key player in India’s defence manufacturing sector, is set to commence the production of high-calibre rounds for artillery guns from its facility in Kanpur starting in April 2025. This significant development comes as part of Adani Defence and Aerospace’s broader plans within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor.

The Kanpur facility has already made significant strides in ammunition production, having commenced the manufacturing of small-calibre ammunition from its units. The upcoming production of high-calibre rounds for artillery guns marks the next phase of expansion for Adani Defence in the defence sector.

One of the key products planned for manufacturing in Kanpur is the 155 mm Ammunition: HE ERFB (BB). This High Explosive Extended Range projectile with Base Bleed is filled with TNT and utilizes a discharge gas generator to achieve an extended range of up to 38,000 meters when fired from a 45-caliber gun and up to 41,000 meters when fired from a 52-caliber gun.

The production of high-calibre ammunition by Adani Defence is a significant boost to India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing. It not only reduces dependence on imports but also contributes to the development of a robust domestic defence industry. The Kanpur facility’s strategic location within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor further enhances its potential to become a major hub for defence manufacturing in India.
