The United States Department of State has approved the potential sale of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) sonobuoys to the Government of India, valued at an estimated $52.8 million. This approval was announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in a notification to Congress.

The Indian government has requested the purchase of AN/SSQ-53G High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys, AN/SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys, AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys, technical publications and data documentation, US Government and contractor engineering and technical support, and other related logistics and program support services.

The proposed sale aligns with US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the US-India strategic relationship and enhancing the security of a key defense partner in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions. By improving India’s capability to conduct anti-submarine warfare operations from its MH-60R helicopters, this sale will help India address current and future threats.

The estimated total cost of the sale is $52.8 million. India is expected to have no difficulty integrating this equipment into its armed forces, and the sale is not anticipated to alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractors for this potential sale are Sparton Corporation, located in De Leon Springs, Florida, and Undersea Sensor Systems Inc. (USSI), located in Columbia City, Indiana, or a combination of both. There are no known offset agreements associated with this sale.

The US government has determined that this proposed sale will not have an adverse impact on US defense readiness. The actual dollar value of the sale may be lower than the estimated amount, depending on final requirements, budget authority, and the signed sales agreement(s).

The implementation of this sale will not necessitate the assignment of additional US government or contractor representatives to India.

This announcement marks another step in the growing defense cooperation between the United States and India, reflecting their shared commitment to regional security and stability.
