Russia’s famed Sukhoi Design Bureau in 2017 had announced that it will be working on developing an 18-ton fifth-generation lightweight stealth fighter powered by a single Izdeliye 30 after burning turbofan engine that is used on the twin-engined Su-57 fighter jet. leaked images of the 18-ton jet that will be soon be displayed at the MAKS Air Show seem to feature two vertical stabilizers and raised composite air inlet ducts that mated with Izdeliye 30 engine will help it achieve Mach 2 speeds.
Thrust vectoring nozzles are likely to be a standard feature on the Izdeliye 30 engine that provides aircraft with super maneuverability and will also shorten the fighter’s takeoff distance due to additional power. the Izdeliye 30 engine also seems to have been fine-tuned for single-engine jet operations with additional safety features.
New Russian stealth fighter jet will do feature radar-evading stealth profiles including Internal Weapon Bay which will be available in manned and unmanned versions. Rostec Corporation is using its funds for the development of this new stealth fighter that is clearly to be promoted in the export market as seen in the promo video of the jet.
Russia is keen to target its traditional buyers of fighter jets that are already either operating Su-30 variants or the Mig-29 jets that simply can’t afford or have access to fifth-generation jets like F-35. With second fifth-generation fighter offerings, Rostec wants to ensure that the traditional Russian market remains Russian and doesn’t move on to American or Chinese offerings in the fifth-generation fighter class.
