In a significant milestone for India’s indigenous defense manufacturing, VEM Technologies is set to hand over the Centre Fuselage (CF) assembly of the Tejas MK1A to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on May 30, 2025. This delivery marks a crucial step in the production of the advanced light combat aircraft, further strengthening the Indian Air Force’s fleet with homegrown technology.
VEM Technologies, a key player in aerospace manufacturing, has successfully produced over 1,500 components for the CF assembly of the Tejas MK1A. Each component has undergone rigorous quality assurance checks, ensuring compliance with the stringent standards required for military aviation. The CF assembly is a critical structural element of the aircraft, housing vital systems and contributing to the overall aerodynamic performance of the Tejas MK1A.
This development follows another notable achievement in the Tejas MK1A program earlier this year. In March 2025, Alpha Tocol Engineering Services delivered the first rear fuselage for the Tejas MK1A, marking a significant contribution to the aircraft’s production timeline. The collaboration between HAL and private sector companies like VEM Technologies and Alpha Tocol underscores the growing role of India’s private industry in defense production, aligning with the government’s push for self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
The Tejas MK1A, an upgraded variant of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, features enhanced avionics, improved radar systems, and better maintainability, making it a versatile platform for the Indian Air Force. The timely delivery of the CF assembly by VEM Technologies is expected to keep the production schedule on track, supporting HAL’s commitment to deliver 83 Tejas MK1A aircraft to the IAF as part of a contract signed in 2021.
