Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) has developed a new Truck-Mounted Howitzer (TMH) based on its renowned Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS). This new artillery system is designed to compete with the MGS developed by the Kalyani Group, both of which share the same underlying ATAGS gun.
The Tata-developed TMH leverages the Tata LPTA 3945 / 3138 8×8 Truck as its platform, offering exceptional mobility and versatility. While the MGS also utilizes the ATAGS gun, Tata’s TMH boasts its unique design and features.
One of the key advantages of the TMH is its inherent indirect fire flexibility, allowing it to be employed in traditional gun howitzer roles. The weapon system’s excellent tactical and road strategic mobility ensures its effectiveness in various operational scenarios. With a range of 600 km without refuelling and a top speed of 85 Km/hr, the TMH offers unmatched mobility on the battlefield.
The ordnance used in the TMH has been optimized for the 52 calibre 155mm ballistic system. The projectiles are of the extended range type, providing increased range and target effectiveness compared to existing systems. The TMH is also compatible with NATO and other types of ammunition, enhancing its versatility.
The development of the TMH demonstrates Tata Advanced Systems’ commitment to providing advanced artillery solutions to the Indian Army. The TMH’s combination of power, precision, and mobility makes it a formidable weapon system that will undoubtedly play a crucial role in enhancing India’s defence capabilities.
