Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a key player in India’s burgeoning defense manufacturing sector, unveiled its Light Armoured Multi-Role Vehicle (LAMV) 4×4 at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The event, held from February 17-21, 2025, provided a global stage for TASL to demonstrate its latest innovation in armored mobility, reinforcing India’s growing footprint in the international defense market.
The LAMV 4×4, a versatile and robust platform, is designed to meet the diverse operational needs of modern armed forces. Showcased as a NATO-standard compliant vehicle, it blends advanced protection, high mobility, and modular adaptability, making it suitable for a range of missions—from reconnaissance and troop transport to tactical operations in challenging terrains. The vehicle’s unveiling at IDEX 2025 marks a significant milestone for TASL, as it pitches an indigenously developed product to a global audience, aligning with India’s “Make in India” and self-reliance initiatives in defense production.
The LAMV on display at IDEX 2025 reflects a major redesign from earlier iterations, showcasing TASL’s commitment to evolving its offerings based on operational feedback and technological advancements. With a gross vehicle weight of approximately 10,200 kg and a seating capacity of 2+2 (with potential for more depending on configuration), the LAMV strikes a balance between agility and protection. It features ballistic protection up to STANAG 4569 Level 2 and mine resistance at Levels 2a and 2b, ensuring crew safety against small arms fire and explosive threats. The vehicle’s V-shaped hull enhances its blast-deflection capabilities, a critical feature for operations in high-threat environments.
Powered by a 276 kW engine, the LAMV delivers exceptional mobility across diverse terrains, from deserts to high-altitude regions. Its advanced features include run-flat tires, a central tire inflation system, and a 360-degree situational awareness camera system, complemented by INS/GPS navigation and a battle management system. These capabilities position the LAMV as a cutting-edge solution for reconnaissance, utility, and rapid-response missions.
One of the standout aspects of the LAMV 4×4 is its modular architecture, allowing it to be customized for country-specific requirements. TASL highlighted potential variants at IDEX 2025, including a reconnaissance vehicle equipped with advanced sensors, a double-cab protected utility vehicle for troop and supply transport, and a tactical variant tailored for SWAT or rapid-deployment teams. This adaptability makes the LAMV an attractive option for international markets, including West Asia, North Africa, the United Kingdom, and Latin America—regions TASL has identified as key targets for export.
The vehicle’s air-transportable design further enhances its appeal, enabling rapid deployment in expeditionary operations. With a maximum speed of up to 100 kmph and the ability to integrate weapon systems such as remote or manned weapon stations, smoke launchers, and IED jammers, the LAMV is engineered to provide both flexibility and firepower.
Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of TASL, emphasized the significance of the launch: “The global unveiling of the LAMV 4×4 at IDEX 2025 reflects India’s advancing defense manufacturing capabilities. This vehicle embodies our commitment to delivering mission-ready solutions that meet the evolving needs of armed forces worldwide.” His comments resonate with India’s broader push to boost defense exports, a sector projected to grow as the global armored vehicle market expands from $22.28 billion in 2023 to $37.85 billion by 2035.
