In a major boost to India’s defence export ambitions, Solar Industries India Limited, a Nagpur-based explosives and ammunition manufacturer, announced on February 28, 2025, that it, along with its subsidiary, has secured export orders worth ?2,150 crore for the supply of defence products.

Solar Industries India Limited, renowned for its expertise in explosives, propellants, and ammunition systems, revealed that the orders encompass a range of defence products, though specific details about the items and the recipient countries remain undisclosed due to strategic sensitivities. The company, along with its subsidiary Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), will collaborate to fulfill the contract, leveraging their combined manufacturing capabilities and technological prowess.

The company’s portfolio, which includes high-energy explosives, rocket propellants, bombs, artillery shells, and drones, caters to a wide array of defence applications. Its subsidiary, EEL, has been instrumental in developing advanced munitions, including multi-mode hand grenades and UAV-launched precision munitions, which have garnered interest from international buyers. The export orders are likely to feature a mix of these products, tailored to meet the operational needs of foreign militaries.

This export contract builds on Solar Industries’ prior international achievements. In 2022, it secured a ?455 crore order from an unnamed foreign client for artillery rockets, followed by consistent domestic contracts with the Indian armed forces for products like the Pinaka rocket system and anti-tank munitions. The ?2,150 crore deal eclipses these earlier wins, signaling the company’s growing competitiveness in a market traditionally dominated by Western and Russian suppliers.
