In a significant boost to India’s defense technology landscape, Sisir Radar, a pioneering startup in the space and radar technology sector, has clinched two major Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) challenges. These victories are for the development of L-band and P-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems and an innovative Unfurlable Dual Band (L+P) Reflector Antenna, specifically tailored for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Sisir Radar’s success in these iDEX challenges underscores its commitment to advancing India’s capabilities in radar technology for both strategic reconnaissance and operational effectiveness:

  • L-band + P-band SAR Systems: These systems are designed to offer unparalleled all-weather, day-and-night imaging capabilities. The dual-band SAR will provide the IAF with the ability to penetrate obstacles like clouds, rain, and foliage, offering a significant advantage in terms of surveillance and monitoring over diverse terrains. The L-band SAR boasts a resolution of 1 meter, setting a new standard in the industry, while the P-band adds capabilities for deeper penetration into dry terrain, enhancing underground and subsurface imaging.
  • Unfurlable Dual Band (L+P) Reflector Antenna: This innovative antenna design, inspired by origami principles, promises to revolutionize satellite radar technology by allowing for larger, more efficient antennas to be deployed from smaller launch vehicles. This not only reduces launch costs but also enhances the SAR’s performance by providing a larger aperture for better resolution and coverage.

These developments come at a crucial time for the IAF, as it seeks to expand its reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities in a rapidly evolving security environment. The integration of these advanced SAR systems will:
