Protests erupted in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday as people hit the streets condemning the killing of Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike by Israel in Beirut, Lebanon. A protest march held in Budgam witnessed a large number of people, including women and children, holding portraits of the Hezbollah chief.

Similar protests were held in Sringar’s old city, and other areas of the state, after Israel announced the killing of the 64-year-old leader of the terrorist group, which was later confirmed by the outfit.

Raising anti-Israeli and anti-American slogans, the protestors marched on the streets holding Nasrallah’s pictures.

Nasrallah, who led the Hezbollah for over three decades, is a revered figure especially among the Shia community across the world. The Shia community in Kashmir sees him as a “symbol of resistance”. As Nasrallah’s killing was confirmed by the Hezbollah, Mehdi–a member of the Srinagar Parliament who was campaigning for the National Conference’s Pattan candidate Javaid Reyaz Bedar, took to social media platform X to call off his campaign.
