Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has been tasked with developing software for the TFX Kaan, a joint venture fifth-generation fighter jet program between Pakistan and Turkey. This development was reported by the Pakistani media outlet BOL News.

Last year, Turkish Deputy Defense Minister Celal Sami Tüfekçi announced that discussions were underway to involve Pakistan in Turkey’s next-generation fighter aircraft (NGFA) program. Tüfekçi revealed that nearly 200 Pakistani engineers were already working on the TFX Kaan project.

In addition to its involvement in the TFX Kaan program, BOL News reported last month that the PAF has begun training its pilots in China to operate the FC-31, a stealth fighter jet.

Several factors could be influencing Pakistan’s approach. One possibility is that the PAF is seeking to diversify its fighter jet fleet and reduce its reliance on a single supplier. By engaging in both the TFX Kaan and FC-31 programs, Pakistan can potentially mitigate risks associated with technology transfer, production delays, or geopolitical factors.

Another factor could be the specific capabilities and characteristics of each aircraft. The TFX Kaan is a joint venture with Turkey, while the FC-31 is a Chinese product. Each aircraft may offer different advantages and be suited for different operational requirements.
