The National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Wednesday, arrested absconding Khalistani terrorist Gurjeet Singh Nijjar at Delhi airport upon his deportation from Cyprus. Nijjar, who belongs to Amritsar in Punjab had left the country for Cyprus in 2017. The government had issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) against him. He was thus sent back and detained at the Delhi Airport. He will be taken to Mumbai for further investigation.

Nijjar was deported from Cyprus for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to revive Sikh militancy in India and create a separate state of Khalistan.

In a matter pertaining to the case, the NIA had registered a case against one Harpal Singh under the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Police Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Nijjar, other two hatched the conspiracy

Harpal Singh and one Moin Khan were part of the plan, in which Nijjar has been the main conspirator. According to agency reports, the trio actively posted photos, videos ad images glorifying convicted militants including Jagtar Singh Hawara (a convict in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh), Operation Blue Star besides others.

“As part of the conspiracy, the three used to post videos and images containing praises of militant Jagtar Singh Hawara (a convict in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh), the Operation Blue Star of 1984, besides pro-Khalistani posts related to the proscribed organisation, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), with the sole intention to motivate like-minded Sikh youngsters and others to join the so-called Khalistan movement,” an NIA official told news agency PTI.

According to the agency report, Moin, who was in Tihar jail, came in contact with Harpal and Nijjar. “Nijjar motivated Moin by discussing the “atrocities committed against Muslims and Sikhs in India and convinced him to work for a separate Khalistan State,” the official told the agency.
