Kanpur-based MKU Limited has achieved a significant milestone with its Kavro Doma 360, a cutting-edge ballistic helmet now officially inducted into service with the Indian Army. According to company officials, the helmet is also undergoing trials abroad, though specific details about these international evaluations remain undisclosed. Unveiled initially at Milipol Paris 2023 and showcased again at Aero India 2025, the Kavro Doma 360 has garnered attention for its advanced protective capabilities and innovative design, positioning India as a rising force in global defence manufacturing.

The Kavro Doma 360 sets a new standard in head protection, engineered to withstand some of the most common and lethal rifle rounds in modern warfare. MKU claims the helmet offers uniform protection across all five zones of the head—front, back, left, right, and crown—against AK-47-fired 7.62×39 mm mild steel core (MSC) bullets, as well as 7.62×51 mm and 5.56×45 mm NATO rounds. This capability addresses a long-standing challenge for the Indian Army, whose personnel often face threats from AK-47s in counterinsurgency operations, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.

A standout feature is the helmet’s back face signature (BFS)—a measure of deformation on the inner surface caused by bullet impact—maintained at less than 20 mm. This low BFS significantly reduces the risk of behind-helmet blunt trauma (BHBT), a critical factor in mitigating concussions and skull injuries from high-energy impacts. The boltless design, a global first for rifle-rated helmets, eliminates weak points and enhances coverage by 40% compared to traditional bolted helmets, according to MKU.

Beyond its ballistic prowess, the Kavro Doma 360 is built with practicality and adaptability in mind. Weighing as little as 1.45 kg in its high-cut combat (HCH) small configuration—rising to 1.8 kg for the larger advanced combat variant—the helmet prioritizes lightweight comfort without compromising protection. Its construction incorporates anti-allergic materials, ensuring prolonged use doesn’t irritate the wearer, while its all-weatherproof and chemical-safe properties make it resilient in diverse environments, from humid jungles to arid deserts.

The helmet’s shock-absorption capabilities, bolstered by an Advanced Harness System with Dynamic Impact Technology, protect against both direct and rotational impacts, further reducing the risk of brain injuries. This is paired with a modular padded suspension system, adjustable from top-to-chin and side-to-side, ensuring a snug, stable fit even during intense operations.

A key feature of the Kavro Doma 360 is its compatibility with the Modular Accessory Connector System (MACS), a bolt-free mounting platform that enhances its versatility. This system allows soldiers to integrate advanced head-mounted devices, including night-vision goggles, communication headsets, protective masks, mandibular guards, and torches. The open-architecture design ensures seamless adaptation to mission-specific needs, making it a force multiplier for troops operating in low-visibility or high-threat scenarios.
