Security has been tightened in Manipur after getting information that well armed Kuki militants from Myanmar have entered Manipur. Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh said on Friday that immediately after getting the information, a meeting of the Security Operation Group (SOG) was held on Sep 18, which was attended by the Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, BSF, CRPF, and other security agencies and discussed the matter.
All the security posts have been alerted, and all security agencies were also informed. He further said the 900 militants had infiltrated in groups of around 30 people. They will need food and shelter, and hence combing operations have to be carried out.
Assam Rifles, which is guarding the border, has been put on high alert. All agencies have been briefed to search for raw materials like pipe, explosives, and transporter systems used to make drones and other weapons, he added, addressing the media at the CM Secretariat. Sensitive areas, like rail roads, were also alerted. Areas within a five-kilometre range of the foothills were also under surveillance. The weapons used to carry out attacks weighed around 30 kg; hence, all were asked to check the carrying out of heavy machines using binoculars.
About 648 bunkers were destroyed so far, he added. Anti drone systems have been used in Manipur. About 20 drone attacks were stopped. Seven IEDs weighing about 7 kg were seized. Officials at airports, oil depots, and other places were also briefed. Drones are banned in the entire state. A Kuki militant from Myanmar was also apprehended by Assam Rifles and handed over to police, he said, and action will be taken up under the Foreigners Act.
The attack of a drone bomb at Koutruk has been handed over to the NIA, as the Manipur government has no technology to probe the matter. The Chief Minister’s Secretariat had also informed the Security Advisor and the DGP earlier about the intrusion of the Kuki militants from Myanmar into Indian territory. The militants coming in different phases were allegedly planning to carry out attacks on September 28 next.
