Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar speaking to “Financial Express ” said that the recently concluded deal with Airbus for the supply of 56 C-295 tactical aircraft out of these, 40 aircraft will be manufactured in India by TATA Consortium in India where more than 125 MSMEs have been roped in to supply 13200 detailed parts, 4600 sub-assemblies and all seven major component assemblies like outer wings, center wings, box, nose fuselage, center fuselage, appendages, and doors.

Kumar said that ninety-six percent is the level of indigenization that will be achieved for the Made in India C-295 aircraft that will also make current Indian MSMEs as suppliers for the global supply chain. Assemblies of aerostructure, including the subassemblies, will also be all done in India.

All 56 aircraft will be installed with the indigenous Electronic Warfare Suite and will give a major boost to the tactical airlift capability of IAF, especially in the Northern and North-Eastern sectors and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
