Pakistani state-owned, Heavy Industries Taxila will be locally assembling Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Kits of the Chinese third-generation VT-4 Main Battle Tank supplied by the Chinese Norinco Group in the country that will be called Haider MBT after both countries agreed to transfer of CKD Kits.

Pakistan Army already is in the process of inducting 300 VT-4 Main Battle Tanks under a 2017 deal with China which was later increased by another order for 160 units in the third batch another 110 units will be procured making it the largest Main Battle tanks of Pakistan Army surpassing the fleet of 320 T-80UD MBTs it had acquired in the mid-1990s from Ukraine and its 250 Al-Khalid MBT that was based on the Chinese Type-90-IIM MBT.

T-80UD MBT and Al-Khalid MBT have been getting minor upgrades over the last few years but both are considered inferior to the Indian T-90S Bhishma MBTs which is a highly customized variant of the Russian MBT and Made in India under Transfer of Technology agreements. VT-4 again has been developed exclusively for an overseas market like Pakistan as the Chinese Army largely operates Type-96A and Tye 96 Main Battle Tanks which are way superior then VT-4 exported to Pakistan.
