The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) – Tejas SP-15 (LA-5015 ) completed its maiden flight after taking off from HAL Airport in Bangalore on 22-March-2019 piloted by Gp Capt K K Venugopal (Retd). SP-15 flew for 29 mins and landed back safely.
The LCA Tejas SP-15 is Fifteen Series Production aircraft and also last of the Single seater IOC-II Certified aircraft which after few more regular sorties will join No. 45 Squadron Indian Air Force (Flying Daggers) and complete first squadron strength.
Last aircraft SP-16 had completed its first flight on 12-March-2019. Since SP- 15 (LA – 5015) came from Second production line there were delays but achieved its March-end deadline set by IAF on HAL. HAL promised that by next March 2020, 16 more FOC LCA-Tejas Mk1 will be delivered to Indian Air Force and by March 2021 more 8 FOC Twin Seater Trainer variant of LCA-Tejas Mk1 to be handed over the air force thus marking the completion of orders for 40 LCA-Tejas Mk1. First LCA-Tejas squadron will have its full strength by end of this year and first FOC certified LCA-Tejas Mk1 will make it to the air by October this year.
