The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has come under scrutiny after images surfaced showing substantial debris and trash near the mobile pedestal track in front of the PSLV Integration Facility (PIF) building. The images, which raised concerns about the cleanliness and professionalism of the facility, prompted calls for immediate action from the premier space agency.

In response to the criticism, ISRO clarified that the debris accumulation was a result of recent cyclonic rains, flooding, and high winds that affected the area. The space agency stated, “We have been making all efforts to clean the areas affected by the recent cyclonic rains, resultant flooding, and winds. The island is a huge area and marshy, so it takes time to clean all areas. Substantial cleaning of affected areas has been done.”

The PSLV Integration Facility is situated in Sriharikota, an island known for its marshy terrain and susceptibility to weather-related challenges. Maintaining cleanliness across such a vast and ecologically diverse area is a logistical challenge, particularly after extreme weather events.

As one of the world’s leading space organizations, ISRO operates under immense pressure to maintain its facilities to international standards. The debris near the PSLV Integration Facility has sparked a broader conversation about the need for robust environmental management strategies alongside space exploration and development.
