In a significant stride towards enhancing the combat readiness of India’s armed forces, Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) has successfully delivered 35,000 AK-203 rifles to the Indian Army. This delivery marks a crucial step in equipping our soldiers with one of the most reliable and modern assault rifles available, ensuring they have the best tools to defend our nation’s sovereignty.

The AK-203, affectionately dubbed ‘Sher’ (Tiger) by the troops, has received exceptional feedback from the brave officers and soldiers of the Indian Army. Their positive reception underscores the rifle’s effectiveness in various operational scenarios, from high-altitude warfare to counter-insurgency operations, validating IRRPL’s commitment to quality and performance.

A highlight of the year was the visit by the Chief of the Army Staff to IRRPL’s manufacturing facility in Korwa, Amethi. This visit not only honored the hard work of IRRPL’s employees but also underscored the strategic importance of this joint venture in bolstering India’s defense capabilities. The Army Chief’s presence was a testament to the trust and confidence the Indian military places in the AK-203.

In an ongoing effort to meet the Army’s demands, IRRPL is now preparing another batch of 20,000 AK-203 rifles for delivery. This continuous supply chain reflects the company’s dedication to supporting India’s defense forces with timely and quality armament.

The completion of 100% Transfer of Technology from Russia stands as a monumental achievement for IRRPL. This milestone not only facilitates the indigenous production of the AK-203 but also empowers India with the knowledge and skills to innovate and adapt the technology further.

Indigenisation is at the heart of IRRPL’s mission, aligning with India’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India). The company has already achieved 30% indigenisation of components, with ambitious targets set for 70% by mid-2025 and full indigenisation by September 2025. These milestones are not just numbers but represent significant steps towards self-sufficiency in defense manufacturing.

Looking ahead, IRRPL aims to dramatically increase its production capacity, planning to deliver nearly 1.2 lakh AK-203 rifles annually starting in 2026. This scaling will not only cater to domestic needs but also potentially position IRRPL for international markets, showcasing India’s manufacturing prowess on a global stage.

The growth in production has been paralleled by an expansion in human capital. IRRPL has crossed the 200-employee mark this year, with plans to double its team size by 2025. This workforce expansion is crucial for meeting production goals and for the transfer of skills and knowledge necessary for advanced manufacturing.
