The Indian Defence Budget has confirmed that the Capital Outlay for the upcoming financial year will include funding for project clearance of the Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF) program and the Remotely Stealthy Powered Autonomous Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (RSPA UCAV).

The budget statement specifies that “some major acquisitions planned in the next year, such as Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft of High and Medium Altitude and Stage Payment of Deck-Based Aircraft, will be funded out of this allocation.”

idrw.org recently reported that the RSPA UCAV program has completed Scaled model testing and ADE has started work on fabrication of the first Prototype. RSPA UCAV will be powered by a Single Dry Kaveri Engine Derivate that will generate 46kN of Thrust and will have a Maximum Take off Weight (MTOW) of nearly 13 tons which will make it a Tejas Mk1A Class jet.

The TEDBF is designed to be the Indian Navy’s next-generation carrier-based fighter jet, aiming to replace the ageing MiG-29K fleet. The project clearance and subsequent development stages are now financially supported, ensuring that India moves closer to achieving self-reliance in naval aviation. This also confirms that the Critical Design Review (CDR) for the TEDBF program is also close to being concluded soon and presented to the MoD for project funding. Recently MoD agreed to the Navy’s reduced demand for around 80 TEDBF jets while demand was for around 140 jets.

Both the TEDBF and RSPA UCAV are pivotal for India’s strategy in the Indo-Pacific region, where maritime and aerial superiority are crucial. These projects will extend India’s operational reach and combat effectiveness.
