The Indian Army has made a significant stride in counter-terrorism operations with the induction of the Hoverbee, a miniature kamikaze drone developed by Bengaluru-based startup Zulu Defence. This 15-centimeter-long, 260-gram drone is designed to navigate complex environments and neutralize threats with precision.
Major Samar Toor, a veteran infantry officer and Chief Growth Officer at Zulu Defence, highlights the Hoverbee’s capabilities. “This drone can enter buildings, search for targets, and eliminate them while avoiding obstacles,” he explains. Equipped with a 400-gram grenade, it can be detonated remotely or upon detecting movement in its vicinity.
Beyond its lethal capabilities, the Hoverbee excels as a surveillance tool. Equipped with sensors and night vision, it provides real-time video feeds, enabling operators to assess situations rapidly. The drone’s compact size and lightweight design allow for easy deployment and recovery, making it an invaluable asset for rapid situational awareness.
The Hoverbee represents a breakthrough in Personal Reconnaissance Systems (PRS), offering soldiers a versatile tool for building interventions and other challenging environments. Its ability to be launched and recovered with a single hand further enhances its operational efficiency.
The Indian Army’s adoption of the Hoverbee marks a pivotal moment in counter-terrorism strategy. This innovative technology is expected to significantly enhance the force’s ability to neutralize threats while minimizing collateral damage.
