India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for a launch of an experimental flight vehicle in the Bay of Bengal for the period from 28-29 June 2021 as per information provided by Twitter user @detresfa_. This is in addition to the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that was issued a few days ago for the period of 23-25 June 2021 that was speculated for the launch of the Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile.

The latest notification for the area marked and trajectory seems to hint at the possibility of the third launch of India’s Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle (HSTDV) from APJ Abdul Kalam testing range in Odisha’s Balasore. In the Third launch, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) plans to validate the highly complex technology of the NextGen Hypersonic vehicle minus its aerodynamic heat shields, while the Agni missile booster will propel the Hypersonic cruise vehicle to desired hypersonic Mach number before the cruise vehicle is separated from the launch vehicle.

DRDO also plans to test the Hypersonic cruise vehicle for a longer duration than the previous test for 20 seconds once it’s on desired flight path at a velocity of six times the speed of sound.
