In a significant milestone for India’s defense exports, the first batch of Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers (MRBLs) was dispatched to Armenia earlier this month. This delivery is part of a contract signed between the two nations, marking a new chapter in their defense partnership and showcasing India’s growing prowess in the global arms market.
Developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by private-sector firms in collaboration with state-run Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the Pinaka MRBL is a highly versatile, indigenous rocket artillery system. Designed for rapid deployment and high-volume firepower, the Pinaka system has proven its effectiveness in the Indian Army’s inventory during multiple operations.
The Armenia-India defense contract, signed in 2022, underscores Armenia’s growing reliance on Indian-made military systems to bolster its armed forces. The Pinaka systems are expected to serve as a critical component in Armenia’s defense strategy, offering an enhanced ability to neutralize enemy positions, fortifications, and supply chains with concentrated firepower.
This export deal is a significant achievement for India’s burgeoning defense manufacturing sector. It aligns with the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) initiatives, which aim to position India as a global hub for defense production and exports. The successful export of the Pinaka system highlights India’s ability to develop and deliver advanced military technology that meets international standards.
This delivery follows earlier reports of Armenia acquiring Indian-made Akash missile systems earlier this month, further indicating a growing reliance on Indian defence technology.
