Mumbai-based ideaForge Technology Limited, a leading name in India’s drone manufacturing sector, has taken a significant step toward expanding its global footprint by announcing a strategic investment and partnership with Vantage Robotics, a California-based firm specializing in nano and micro unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This collaboration, revealed on February 20, 2025, marks a pivotal moment for both companies as they aim to leverage each other’s strengths to revolutionize the UAV industry.
ideaForge, ranked third globally among dual-use drone manufacturers by Drone Industry Insights in 2024, has built a reputation for delivering cutting-edge UAV solutions for defense, security, and industrial applications. The company, headquartered in Mumbai with advanced R&D and manufacturing hubs in Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru, has now set its sights on enhancing its offerings and deepening its presence in the North American market through this alliance with Vantage Robotics.
Vantage Robotics, based in Silicon Valley, is renowned for its expertise in designing and developing nano and micro UAVs tailored for national security, law enforcement, and critical infrastructure inspections. Founded in 2013, the company has developed a portfolio of compact, high-performance drones, including its recently launched Trace nano UAV, which offers advanced reconnaissance capabilities in a pocket-sized form factor. This partnership complements ideaForge’s existing lineup of tactical drones, enabling the company to offer a broader spectrum of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions—from nano drones to larger platforms.
The investment, valued at USD 1.832 million (approximately ?15.96 crore), was executed through a Compulsorily Convertible Promissory Note on February 19, 2025. While not an acquisition, this minority stake aligns with ideaForge’s long-term strategy to bolster its technological capabilities and tap into new markets. “With this investment and partnership, ideaForge is further underscoring its long-term commitment to building and enabling technology and products,” said Ankit Mehta, CEO of ideaForge. “Vantage Robotics has built an impressive portfolio of nano and micro drones, and together, we will offer next-generation UAV solutions globally that push the boundaries of performance, reliability, and autonomy.”
The collaboration brings together ideaForge’s advanced software and intelligence platforms with Vantage’s hardware expertise in nano UAV designs, ground control stations, and micro-gimbal camera subsystems. This synergy is expected to unlock a total addressable market (TAM) of USD 1 billion, focusing on defense and enterprise applications. Additionally, Vantage Robotics will leverage ideaForge’s state-of-the-art AS9100:D certified manufacturing facility in Navi Mumbai to produce its products for Indian and international markets, optimizing production efficiency and scaling capabilities.
For ideaForge, the partnership strengthens its foothold in the United States, where Vantage Robotics holds Blue sUAS status—a designation by the U.S. Department of Defense for trusted small UAV systems. “This will not only enhance our ability to drive adoption of innovative drone solutions but will also deepen our presence in the United States given their experience and history in the region,” Mehta added. Meanwhile, Vantage Robotics CEO Tobin Fisher expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “ideaForge’s excellence in drone technology, manufacturing, and leadership in the Indian marketplace will help us bring our combined portfolio of UAVs to new heights.”
