According to report in the Swarajya, The Indian Air Force (IAF) Chinook heavy-lift transport helicopter completed a non-stop sortie between Chandigarh and Jorhat in Assam, covering a distance of 1,910 kilometres.

According to the Ministry of Defence’s Public Relations Officer in New Delhi, this is India’s longest non-stop helicopter sortie. The Chinook finished the mission in 7 hours and 30 minutes. It is not the first time the heavy-lift helicopter has flown nonstop between Chandigarh and Jorhat. In April of this year, a Chinook flew from Chandigarh to Jorhat, covering the same distance.

These helicopters, based at the Air Force Station in Chandigarh, can transport up to 11 tonnes of cargo or 45 fully armed troops.
