On Friday, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of Air Staff, reiterated the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) steadfast commitment to achieving self-reliance in defence capabilities, emphasizing the pivotal role of indigenous development programs. Speaking at a key event, he underscored that projects like the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-II are at the heart of India’s vision for a technologically advanced and self-reliant defence sector.

Air Chief Marshal Singh highlighted the AMCA, India’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, as a cornerstone of the IAF’s future combat readiness. Designed to deliver cutting-edge capabilities such as stealth, supercruise, and advanced sensor fusion, the AMCA represents a leap toward indigenous innovation. Similarly, the LCA Mk-II, an advanced iteration of the homegrown Tejas platform, is set to enhance the IAF’s operational flexibility with improved avionics, greater payload capacity, and enhanced performance.

“Self-reliance is not just a goal but a necessity for strategic autonomy,” Singh stated, emphasizing that these programs align with India’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He noted that the IAF is actively collaborating with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and private industry partners to accelerate development and production timelines. These efforts aim to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers while fostering a robust domestic defence ecosystem.
