Naval Variant of ALH-Dhruv has been showcased at Aero India 2019 with a new Automatic Rotor Blades Folding (ARBF) system that will allow the helicopter to be stored onboard ships where hanger space is at a premium.
HAL for the first time also has developed a folding section for the tail rotor so that it doesn’t take so much real estate on the Flight deck or in the hanger. Rotor Blades Folding system was first demonstrated on HAL’s Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) Helicopter first which was later adapted for Naval Variant of ALH-Dhruv but folding of tail section is a completely new system which was adapted only for ALH-Dhruv.
Indian Navy which operates ALH-Dhruv fleet of its own for Search and Rescue missions but if cleared by Indian Navy, the new variant of ALH-Dhruv might be adopted for usage from onboard ships if trials are successful.
