In a recent interview with Bharat Tak, former Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria emphasized the significant export potential of the LCA-Tejas Mk1A, India’s indigenously developed light combat aircraft. Bhadauria, who was a former test pilot on the LCA-Tejas program, stressed the need for a more focused approach to marketing the Tejas Mk1A to international buyers, citing its world-class capabilities and competitive pricing.

Bhadauria lauded the LCA-Tejas Mk1A as a state-of-the-art fighter jet that stands out in its class for its advanced technology and capabilities. “In its class, the LCA-Tejas Mk1A ranks among the top two aircraft globally in terms of technology and capabilities,” he remarked. The Tejas Mk1A, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is a highly versatile and capable multirole fighter designed to perform a wide range of missions, from air-to-air combat to ground attack.

The former Air Chief Marshal’s endorsement of the Tejas Mk1A is rooted in his firsthand experience as a test pilot, where he witnessed the aircraft’s evolution and performance capabilities. “Having flown the Tejas, I can confidently say it is a world-class aircraft that competes effectively not just in terms of its technological sophistication but also in terms of cost. This makes it an attractive option for many countries looking to upgrade their air forces,” Bhadauria stated.

Bhadauria highlighted that the LCA-Tejas Mk1A has strong export potential due to its modern design, indigenous development, and cost-effectiveness. He pointed out that the Tejas Mk1A is well-positioned to meet the defense needs of several countries, especially those looking for a capable yet affordable fighter jet.

Several countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa have already shown interest in the LCA-Tejas Mk1A. India’s defense export policy is also geared toward promoting indigenous platforms like the Tejas to friendly countries, aligning with Bhadauria’s call for increased focus on exports.
