Indian Air Force has committed to sending SU-30MKI aircraft to the Royal Australian hosted Exercise Pitch Black exercise that will see participation from France with Rafale, Germany with Typhoon, Japan with F2, Singapore with F15SG and F-16, and Indonesia with F16A and USAF with F-15C.

India last participated in Exercise Pitch Black 2018 edition when the IAF contingent consisted of 145 air warriors including the Garud team, 04 X Su-30 MKI, 01 X C-130, and 01 X C-17. Exercise Pitch Black aim is to undertake simulated air combat exercises in a controlled environment and mutual exchange of best practices towards enhancing operational capability.

Exercise Pitch Black is a biennial three-week multi-national large force employment exercise conducted primarily from RAAF Base Darwin and RAAF Base Tindal. RAAF Base Amberley will also be included in the exercise this year with up to 15 nations from around the globe will participate.
