Dynamatic Technologies Ltd, a leading Indian precision engineering company, is making significant strides in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sector with its latest project, the CHEEL Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) surveillance drone. This innovative aircraft is being developed with an Australian engine from Orbital Corporation, promising an impressive flight endurance of up to 8 hours.
The CHEEL drone, named after the Indian word for “eagle,” symbolizes the high aspirations of this project. It’s designed to cater to the increasing demand for long-endurance, surveillance-capable VTOL drones, which can perform a variety of tasks from reconnaissance to border surveillance.
The drone will incorporate Orbital Corporation’s 150cc Heavy Fuel Engine (HFE), known for its efficiency and reliability. This choice of engine is pivotal, as it allows the CHEEL to operate on various fuels like gasoline, JP5, JP8, and JetA, offering versatility in operational environments.
With an endurance of 8 hours, the CHEEL stands out in its class, providing extended mission capabilities without the need for frequent refueling or battery swaps. This feature is particularly advantageous for surveillance missions where prolonged presence is required.
The vertical take-off and landing capability makes the CHEEL ideal for operations in constrained spaces or from platforms without runways, enhancing its deployability across diverse terrains. Such drones can be deployed for continuous monitoring of vast areas, crucial for border security, maritime surveillance, or environmental monitoring.
