Admiral R Hari Kumar, chief of the Indian Navy, said on Thursday that the P8I, an anti-submarine, long-range reconnaissance aircraft, has provided “valuable strategic communication” in operations across the Indian Ocean region (IOR).

He warned naval commanders about the rise of non-state actors and the growing influence of large corporations, saying that they “continue to influence our strategic and security calculus.”

The P-8I, which entered service with the Navy in 2013, is capable of long-range surveillance, electronic warfare, imagery intelligence, ASW missions, and search and rescue missions, thanks to a modern mission suite and sensors.
