DRDO seeks Indian start-ups under its Technology Development Fund of the Defence Ministry for the Development of long-range remotely operated vehicles (ROV) with a 1.5-2 km operational range for carrying out UW object detection operations. LROV will enable the detection and possible classification of UW objects while keeping the key assets of the Indian Navy away from the potential hazard field.

A remotely operated underwater vehicle also called an ROV, is unmanned and usually tethered to the operator. It is an underwater robot that collects data about the underwater world about subsea structures or geological formations like hydrothermal vents.

The main goal of the TDF Program is to provide the defense manufacturing industry a huge boost by pushing the industry to innovate and develop defense technology to put India on the path to self-reliance.
